Having surprisingly secured Europa Conference League qualification at the end of last season, St Mirren are hoping to repeat the trick this term.
While Celtic and Rangers are inevitably dominating proceedings at the top of the Scottish Premiership, just a handful of points separate the next few teams.
Dundee United and Aberdeen are the favourites to grab the other two European spots according to Sports Today, but St Mirren are bidding to upset the odds again.
Inconsistency has been Saints’ Achilles heel this season, but manager Stephen Robinson believes the fans are entitled to dream about ending the season well.
“I don't see no reason why, if we can kick on again and bring certain players that we're trying to get in to push us forward, that we can't get top six again,” Robinson said.
"It's a crazy league. It's about who can put a little run together and we proved we can do that.
"When you've overachieved for three years as a group of players, then you're punching above your weight, and people that think that is the weight that you are, but it's not.
“We're a small club still fighting to be a top-six club and get our infrastructure in place and every day we're trying to do that.
"And this group of boys, hopefully aided by a couple of new signings, I'm confident we'll push on into the second half of the season."
St Mirren’s recent 3-0 victory over Aberdeen highlighted why Robinson feels bullish about his team’s chances of enjoying a strong end to the campaign.
However, their upcoming fixtures during the remainder of the first phase of the season undoubtedly present a tricky challenge for the Saints.
They kick off February at home to bottom of the table St Johnstone, before embarking on a run of four games which could ultimately determine their top-six hopes.
Fixtures against Hibernian (H), Rangers (A), Hearts (A) and Celtic (H) will test their mettle and could leave them playing catch-up over the next few games.
A trip to Motherwell is next on the agenda, before Saints finish the first phase with matches against Kilmarnock (H), Dundee (A) and Ross County (A).
While the fixture list looks tough on paper, Saints’ victory at Aberdeen highlighted that it would be foolish to underestimate their chances of forcing their way into the top six.
All of the other teams in contention for European qualification have shown signs of inconsistency this season, meaning no one can take anything for granted.
Robinson says the primary aim is to ensure St Mirren avoid slipping towards the relegation zone, but still has his sights set on a loftier achievement.
"I said we're in a very good position considering everything that's happened throughout the season, Europe, and losing three players in that period,” Robinson added.
“If I can, I'll strengthen the squad, but this group of boys, they don't give up. You go through spells and periods where you don't win games, but we still keep believing in what we're doing.
"The league's so tight, you're still looking over your shoulder at second bottom. Then when you get wins, you're looking forward. But first and foremost, I have to be a realist - make sure we stay in this division.
"The squad we have and potentially the players we might be able to bring in, then hopefully can kick us forward and look upwards as well."
